ABOUT
SLM Bodywork.
SLM Bodywork is a unique form of bodywork, including massage and
acupressure, based largely on an ancient art of healing from the East.
It was made popular by Steve Lockhart in the early 90s and interest in
it has been rapidly growing since that time.
SLM bodywork starts as a full body flowing massage scanning the many critical parts of the body that determines its potential for balance and circulation. Its focus is on putting length and function back into the muscles to restore symetry to the whole system, allowing it to function normally.
SLM bodywork is a lot more than just another form of massage. It is a powerful combination of techniques and knowledge that helps rid the body of pain and injury. A fully trained SLM Practitioner is skilled at knowing how different muscles in the body are connected and how problems in one area can refer pain to a totally different area.
SLM Practitioners are trained to recognise when a body requires attention to diet and/ or exercise to assist it to respond fully to bodywork. This combined knowledge forms the basis of a more holistic approach to a problem and ensures your treatment is highly effective in the large majority of cases for both chronic and acute pain and injury, even when all other methods have failed.
Anyone can learn this unique form of therapy from the beginner through to the qualified massage professional by completing the Professional Myotherapy Training program contained in 15 dvds and a comprehensive text book, or via the workshops options available.
WHY
People need SLM Bodywork
From stress and tension through to acute or chronic pain and injury SLM Bodywork has a solution that suits every need. It can be performed as a fantastic deep full body massage or a detailed body changing experience, depending on what is required.
Through a variety of activities or just our lifestyle in general, the body tends to get 'out of balance'. Often what starts out as a small problem, builds up over time and without warning either a pain develops and stays or an acute injury happens out of nowhere.
Muscle imbalances cause the structure of the body to be loaded up unevenly, some joints and muscles having to work harder than they should and others working less as you go about your days activities. In time the body starts compensating for this lack of symertry and you start to lose flexibility and gain weight as the circulation and metabolism slows. At some point in the body where the pressure from the imbalance is at its greatest you will invariably end up with pain.
To fix pain you need to work at a deep structural level to remove the imbalances compensations you find, in order to return the body to how it was months or even years earlier, well before a problem surfaced.
By fixing an imbalance you invariably fix the original cause of the problem providing long term relief from pain. The full body, deep tissue, incredibly effective SLM Bodywork techniques are the best way to safely achieve this.
The health, strength and suppleness of your body goes a long way to determine how significant this imbalance is and how easy or difficult it will be to remove. That is why a therapy shouldn't just manipulate the body but look at ways, through diet, exercises and self treatment to make the body more responsive to the professional muscle work.
It doesn't matter what your lifestyle, everyone has occasions when their body is in pain or a state of dysfunction. SLM bodywork is a fast and effective way of returning the body to its normal state whilst treating the cause of the problem, rather than just the symptom...... so that it doesn't return.
